SSM Goals Poster

The next time you visit an SSM Health Care facility, check out the colorful “Mission Exceptional” posters on the walls in every department. The posters document our progress toward providing better care for patients.

Each poster shows our goals in three areas: Exceptional Patient Care (as demonstrated by patient/customer satisfaction, safety and clinical service), Exceptional Commitment (as demonstrated by employee satisfaction and physician satisfaction), and Exceptional Financial Performance/Growth (as demonstrated by financial performance and growth). The department goals link directly to goals set either by the facility or by the regional network. SSM Health Care – St. Louis, for example, has the same overall goals for all seven of its hospitals.

To ensure that all employees in the system understand what they must do to help achieve their department’s goals, SSM has “passports.”

SSM Employee Passport

Every employee carries a passport with their badge. These passports list each employee’s specific individual goals, which link to the department goals,the hospital's goals and system goals. SSM’s posters and passports represent the specific and measurable things that we do to move closer to SSM’s mission: “Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God.” These posters and passports – which link individual actions to our mission -- have been cited as a best practice by the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
